A Scoop-ful of Thoughts

1.  Remember these Moon Balance Hopper things?

moon hopper

Remember how using it was an exhausting combination of balance and constant jumping? Remember how you had to lean on something to start or rest?
This is the perfect object lesson for my life – a balancing act in perpetual motion. Praise God there is Christ Jesus to lean on, or I’d spend my time falling and breaking. I’m certain many of you can relate.

2.  I recently read The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite by David Kessler. The best book I have ever read about health. Seriously. If you struggle you’re your weight, overeating, or food obsession, go read this now.

3. I leave Saturday for Louisville, KY to attend my step-grandfather’s funeral. While sad about the circumstances, I am, nevertheless, excited about spending time with my family.

4. Why can’t I forgive? Why do I hold angry and jealousy so tight? Why do I resent? Why do I concern myself with other’s wrong instead of working to change my own behavior? Why can’t I love?

5. I have piles of books waiting, begging, pleading to be read. And most were free!

Esprit de l’escalier: “The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it.” ~ James Bryce

Theading Roughts: I have a lengthy, rambling, fanatical, long-winded post reviewing this book. If I can crop it to a readable length, I shall post. For now, enjoy a Summary: Go Read This Book Now.

I'm buying that book today. I identify with all your points except obviously # 3- I'm sorry for your loss but I am happy for your time with your family.

@spokenfor - I would order it from Amazon, if you can. In store, it's $25, but I got mine for $15 online. ~ L

I don't know if you've read The Shack (very popular right now), but I got stuck leading a discussion group about it at church. I liked it better the 2nd time through and one of the last chapters has a very interesting (and I think inspired) discussion about forgiveness. One of the suggestions is to actually speak your forgiveness out loud. They also talk about how you have to constantly and actively forgive - maybe a hundred times the first day and the second day and eventually less and less until you have truly forgiven. I had never thought about forgiveness as an active process that takes time and effort (which is silly because now it seems so obvious - like everything else worth doing it takes effort, you know?). I feel like I've learned that forgiveness isn't just a declaration and BAM you're done, it's a process that takes time to achieve.

Dunno if that helps, but it was very enlightening and encouraging for me.

@spokenfor - Really? I got mine new for $15, with free shipping because N and I have Amazon Prime. Trouble with Used on Amazon if the $3.99 that tack on for shipping. ~ L

@miss_order - It does make sense - forgivness is an active process. My problem is forgiving when I know 1. it's going to happen again and 2. the person isn't sorry. Combine those, and I get so angry I can't see straight, much less forgive. It's a terrible cycle I can't seem to step out of. ~ L

I am going to look for that book on half.com. I definitely need it.

Jealousy is a huge problem for me. I don't know how to overcome it.

There was a boy who treated me badly (not go-to-jail badly, but super-shallow-jerk badly) and it wasn't until the month before I married Pen that I forgave him. Took me seven years, but I'm grateful now for it. The forgiveness has been a release for me.

Ah, number 1. How well I understand.  Lol. Ok, and the forgiveness one too...

RYC- My only hope for the country right now is God intervening in a major way.  I know He can, but I'm not sure if we as a nation are really ready for Him to.  And our 'wise' leaders are going to do anything they can to keep that from happening unfortunately.
